Macaroni and Cheese with Panier
This piece is a powerful commentary on the cyclical nature of consumption and the "fast-fashion" of celebrity culture. By using surreal materials—like lampshades and car parts— a bridge between the historical silhouette and modern commercialism is created. This sculptural work is an exploration of the fleeting power of pop culture and the "rememberable past." The corset features a collage of early 2000s celebrity imagery set against a backdrop of macaroni and cheese—a literal representation of the "comfort food" of mass media.Below, the exaggerated silhouette of 18th-century panniers is reimagined using stripped, upside-down lampshades. These industrial forms are held in place by a Cadillac seatbelt, anchoring the historical shape in a symbol of American status and safety. Together, these elements suggest that while the era changes, humans remain consistently "strapped" to the whims and fancies of current trends.
